Will Making Your Business Green Bankrupt You?

It can be a really good feeling to know that you are doing your bit for the environment, but it can be difficult to know what to do and how you can do it without it costing too much money. You need to continue to make a profit after all and you will need to make sure that you can easily get the money together to pay for anything in the first place. There are ways that you can be greener though without having to spend any money at all.

By using less energy you will save money and be greener. This can be easy to do by making sure that you turn off lights and computers when you are not using them. You can also try to reduce travel by having online and VOIP meetings rather than travelling to see people. By employing people that work from home they will cut down on their travel as well and you will not need to rent a premises which will need decorating, renovating , heating etc which all have an environmental cost.

Business waste disposal can be expensive but it is worth making sure that you reycle or reuse as much as possible as this should save some money. Check what it costs to have recycling collected compared with waste and see whether it is worth you considering.

Business energy can be expensive and so changing to a green supplier could be too much to consider as they are more expensive. However, you could consider generating your own energy and seeing whether this will be cheaper. This will depend on your premises and whether it is possible to install solar panels, windmills or other energy generation methods. Obviously these will be really expensive, but if you think that you will be there for a long period of time then you may find that it will be worth it in the long term. There may be government led incentives for generating electricity which could give you cashback on your installation or a payment for the electricity that you generate. It is worth checking what these rates are and how much money you will save in electricity and then you will be able to calculate how long it will take you to make back the money that you have invested.

Other ways to be greener include changing to energy efficient light bulbs and machinery which can be expensive. If you are replacing things though, you could then consider whether you can afford to replace it with something that is greener. It could cost more money in the first place but it could be cost effective over the long term considering the energy that it saves and so it is worth doing some calculations.

So it might be more expensive to make some energy efficient changes, but in the long term it could save money. Therefore it is worth doing some calculations in order to see whether you can afford to invest in some changes.
