If you have your own business then you may be ready for it to grow, but not know how. It is worth checking first to see whether you are ready to cope with more work and more customers as you will not approach it wholeheartedly if you are not completely enthusiastic about the idea. It is likely that you will need to work harder or employ more people or expand what you do and all of these will add complications to the way that things are done. You need to be ready to do this so that you can muster the energy for it.

Once you are sure that you really want to grow your business then you need to get to action. You need to consider what angle you are going to approach growth. Think about whether you want to do more of what you are doing already or expand into a new area. This will depend on whether you think that there is a market for selling more of your current goods or service, perhaps expanding to different countries or just reaching out to customers that have not yet found you. Alternatively you could introduce something new and see whether your current customers and new customers would be interested in it. This takes a lot of thought before you even then go ahead with any sort of action. If you can afford it, it is worth doing some research to see whether there is a market for selling more of your current products or services or whether there is a market for new items. If you cannot pay for this then you could do some research yourself. Take a look at your potential markets and is available there already, what competition you may have, what people are buying and whether you think it will work. You should be able to do this by looking online, although it will take quite a bit of work and time.

You need to consider your promotion as well. How are you going to make people aware of your new offerings or advertise your current products in new markets. You also have to think about how you will cope with this expansion whether you will manage alone or need to employ more people. If you are selling goods, then you will need to increase your stock and you need to think about how you will do this. Finance could be an issue as well as you may need to invest in order to expand. You may have profits that you can use but if you need to borrow money, you need to consider where you will borrow from and how you will convince someone to lend to you. Obviously you will need to come up with a business plan but also think about how you will manage the repayments on the loan if anything happens and means that you will not be able to make enough money to pay it back through the business. It may take time to start making the money back and so you will need to find a way to make repayments  if you do not cover the cost through the business takings.
