Often people will feel that they are not enjoying their job very much and that they would like a change in their career. It can be difficult though to know whether moving obs or moving careers is the best thing to do for you.

It is worth remembering that a change may not be better than what you are doing now or it may be worse. If you are looking for higher pay, this may come but you may then be expected to take on more responsibility or longer working hours and it may not be worth the extra money. You cannot judge what the team will be like that you will be working with and whether they will be any friendlier than the bunch you are with at the moment. You also cannot really tell what work you will be doing on a day to day basis until you start the job and you may find that it does not turn out how you expected.

Of course, the complete opposite might happen as well, you may find that money is more, working hours are less, team are all fantastic and you really enjoy what you are doing. It is a risk though and it is worth thinking hard about.

Of course if you make the wrong decision, you do not have to stay in the job for long, you can move to another one. However, this may not be that easy and so it can be a really difficult decision to make. You may find that you end up moving from job to job quite rapidly. This could make it difficult to find a job in the future if potential employers think that you might keep changing jobs a lot and so will not stay with them for long.

One important question to think about is whether you feel that you stress levels are getting too high. Also consider whether you really need an increase in pay or promotion and this not offered where you are. These are probably the two most important things to consider when you are thinking about whether to change jobs. If you are finding that the stress is having a negative effect on your health or you go to work with dread each day, then it is worth considering a change. But while considering try to think about whether you think it will make a significant difference if you change jobs. Is it specific to the job or is it something which is likely to follow you to a new job. Also considering the pay, think about whether the hassle of a change of jobs is worth it. Consider how much the increase in pay will be and whether it will be worth it or not.

Some people do change jobs every few years and feel comfortable doing it. However, for others it may be difficult for them to find a new job and they may find it takes a long time for them to settle into a new role. If this is the case then it might be wiser to wait and really make sure that you are sure about moving.
