If you run your own business, you may find that at certain times things seem to go a bit flat. It may be that you are not making so many sales or that there is just not as much enthusiasm. If this happens then you need to do something about it in order to improve things.  Without energy in the business it will feel dull and that will rub off on the customers.

It is wise to take a look at sales and see what is going on. Compare sales figures with previous years and see whether it is just a seasonal slump or whether there is something else going on that is effecting it. It could be that what you are offering is not so appealing any more. Perhaps that everyone who wants what you are offering, already has it or there is a competitor offering it at a better price or doing something better or that you are just not up to date any more. It is good to check out your competition, they may have changed what they are offering, be better priced or there may be more competitors than there was in the past. You may also find that what you are offering is no longer so fashionable as it was.

These things could mean that you need to consider whether you should change the direction of what you are doing. This could mean that you completely change it, modernise it, find a better unique selling point or adapt it a bit. What you do will depend very much on the specific thing that you are selling but it is still important to give it a lot of thought. It may not be something that can be subtly changed and it might be that you can sell it from and different angle, but it might be necessary to completely change the whole nature of your business. For some people this can feel like a failure, in that they feel that they have not succeeded so they are giving up. However, what you are doing is responding to changes in the market, which is a really important skill to have as an entrepreneur and that flexibility is really important.

Doing something different, whether it is just a small change or something much more significant will give the business a boost. There will be something new to focus on, and this will inspire you to work harder and try more new things. This should improve enthusiasm and energy and will improve things. It can be easy to get stuck in a rut, doing things the same way and by making a change, even if it does not work, you will change your attitude, make things more interesting and there is a chance that you will increase sales as well. It can be something which could have a massive influence on your business and the energy in it and it will be noticed by your customers as well, which can only be a good thing.
