Many people would like to have a better paid job. It can be demotivating when you think about how hard you have worked and how much you get paid, particularly compared to other people that you may know or have heard about that seem to get more for doing less. There are ways that you could get a better paid job though.
It is worth thinking first though, whether you really do want to go through the hassle of finding a better paid job. Consider whether you like your current job and the people that you are working with and for and whether you would have to work a lot harder if you wanted more pay. Also consider why you want more money and whether you could change your lifestyle and become more frugal and have more money without having to change jobs.
It is worth doing some research to start with. Take a look at the job vacancies and see how much the salaries are. You will be able to find out what jobs get paid the most money. Consider then what you would need to do in order to get that job. You may have to do training, get more work experience, be prepared to commute or other things. You then need to consider whether you are prepared to do these things. It will take a lot of commitment to retrain, for example and you may have to pay for it as well. You may consider that it will be a worthwhile investment, but on the other hand, you may decide that you do not think that it will be worth it. If you need relevant work experience then you may need to consider doing voluntary work to get this. Alternatively, you may consider changing jobs and working your way up through a department to get the work experience you need for a job.
Commuting or even moving to get a dream job could be fairly easy for some people. However for someone that has a family with children or perhaps elderly relatives to look after this may not be an option. Some people may just like the area that they live in and not be prepared to move and others may feel a commute will take up too much of their spare time. It is something that you need to think hard about as commuting can be tiring, especially if you are driving, as well as expensive and if you move away from friends and family you may spend a lot of weekend time travelling so that you can visit them.
It is also worth considering your approach when you are accepted for a job. You need to make sure that you are determined when it comes to negotiating salary. If you think that you are worth a certain salary then make it clear that you are not prepared to accept less. You may worry that you may not get the job, but if the whole point is to get higher pay, then you need to make sure that you have the confidence to stick out for this. If you have the right experience and qualifications, then you should be able to find some good pay.
